One of the things I just can't decide about is the backdrop. The bottom right picture below is our actual ceremony location and as you can see there is a wooden structure, almost like an arch. This is the focal point of the stage and I really want to draw the eye to that area. The problem is, there are so many possible ways to decorate I just cannot choose which one I like the best! This is where you come in... I would love, love, LOVE if you all gave YOUR opinions and helped me choose which one you like the best!
1. Pom pom string garland. This would be similar to the one in the picture, but the pom poms would be in all ivory and they would hang in vertical strips from the structure (like the raw cotton balls hanging down in #4). I like that this would look really delicate and whimsical, but I'm not sure if it is ENOUGH, know what I mean?
2. Strands of ribbon. I love this picture, and it reminds me SO much of our location. I think the ribbons look really effortless and beautiful. The only thing I'm worried about is the cost of so much ribbon and finding some that are long enough! I would love to mix it up with different kinds of lace, though!
3. Fabric pom poms. My sister made tissue paper pom poms for Cayden's birthday last year and I loved them, but the fabric just takes it to a whole new level. I love the texture they provide and you can mix it up with all different kinds of fabric. I would hang these vertically as well, at all different levels. I would probably do various kinds of burlap, cotton, and lace fabrics.
4. Fabric swag. This is what most people do who get married here. They just drape one long piece of fabric over the structure. I like how this looks, but I'm worried it's too simple and I have no idea how much it would cost for that long of a piece of fabric.
Clearly, I need help! Which option is your favorite? Any new ideas or suggestions I haven't thought of? I'm honestly stuck here and need your help deciding! Any and all responses are appreciated! XOXO
OK, I say go for strips of burlap and lace lie picture 2.
ReplyDeleteThat would look gorgeous. You can add some color like a soft pink or just mix ivory, white and burlap.
If you are incorporating both elements in the wedding the sis a good way to introduce them before they sit at the table if that is where the burlap is!
Kinda sets the stage for what is to come.
I also love the poms but think they only work if they are colored. Otherwise you just have white and ivory poms and behind that background it would look boring.
Those are my thoughts!

I think the fabric poms would sort of get "lost" in that big area unless you made them huge, in which case they might distract. They would look cute somewhere else at the wedding, but I don't think the arch is the right place for them.
ReplyDeleteI actually think I like 4 best. It's simple, but pretty and it wouldn't draw attention away from the main feature, i.e. you guys.

I like the strips. I doesn't have to be ribbon. It could be burlap like Alana said or hit some fabric stores for clearance upholstery fabric which would be a cool weight to mix with lace or burlap. And a toile or something with a sheen would be a really interesting combination.

ReplyDeleteUgh, I just think the fabric is so boring! It's hard because we won't be able to decorate much else at the ceremony site, so I feel like we need a really amazing backdrop. Do you think it's possible to find ribbon or strips of fabric that long without it being crazy expensive?

ReplyDeleteI'm trying to find the paper where we measured it, but I think it was around 9 or 10 feet...
ReplyDeleteWell, 9 feet is three yards and fabric is around 44" wide, so if you needed fabric strips to cover, say, nine feet tall and about nine feet wide, you'd need about nine yards total. Isn't burlap less than $2 per yard or something? You're looking at under $20. If you use lace or other fabric mixed in, we'd have to calculate how much that fabric costs to work it out, but I don't think it would be a fortune.
